Friedman Charitable Foundation Expands Life-Changing Housing Program

Strawberry Fields

Strawberry Fields' transformative Fairweather Lodge program—an innovative housing model for individuals recovering from serious mental illness—is growing, thanks to a generous multi-year commitment from the Ed & Charlene Friedman Charitable Foundation. The Foundation’s primary mission is to assist “families in crisis.”

This expansion doubles our capacity, providing stable housing and vital support for eight adults across two Lodges.

The Fairweather Lodge model fosters independence by combining affordable housing with peer support, shared responsibilities, and employment. Residents work together to manage their home, support one another’s recovery, and pursue goals. While residents contribute through rent, sustaining the comprehensive services that drive the program’s success requires additional funding. The Friedman Foundation’s $375,000 commitment over five years ensures the long-term stability of this crucial program.

For those living in the Lodge, the impact is deeply personal. "Living in the Lodge has changed my life," shares one Lodge member. "I've kept a job longer than ever before and get the support I need to stay out of the hospital. For the first time, I feel like I have a home."

"This gift is transformative," says Cindy Pasquinelli, CEO of Strawberry Fields. “It will change lives by offering more individuals the chance to thrive in a family-style and supportive environment. We are deeply grateful for the Friedman Charitable Foundation’s belief in our mission.”
